The 6 Squadron was established on August 1, 1959, deployed at Chitose Air Base. It is the JASDF’s sixth squadron.

The 6 Squadron operated the F-86F Sabre before upgrading to F-1 in 1981. From 2004, the 6 Squadron began the transition to F-2.

This color profile is for 6 Squadron’s F-2 which attended the 2010 Tac Air Meet.

This color profile is for the Rafale C 113-IQ i deployed in Libyan No-Fly Zone operation.

Did not have chances to go to the front line, but depending on the images revealed from the media, the Rafale 113-IQ might be the first to engage in the No-Fly Zone operation, as it is the only Rafale that carries Thales Airborne Reconnaissance Electro Optical System (AREOS) pod. The trials of this pod began at 2009/2010. It is not thought it could be used so early in the Operation Harmattan. As reported, this pod is used for the final confirmation of the target.

The 113-IQ is from EC 01.007 Provence, deployed at Saint-Dizier. Aviation fans might be familiar with this plane, as it has attended MAKS09 airshow.
