Cool Patches from JASDF 302 SQ

Posted: May 16, 2011 in JASDF

The 302 Squadron was founded in 1974,during Cold War, to defense northern sky.  In 1985, the 302 Squadron was transferred from the Second Air Wing to the 83rd Air Wing in Nansei Island.

(Left) The mark of this squadron White-tailed Eagle, also known as Sea Eagle.

It is some collection of 302 Squadron for Tac Air Meet.

The 6 Squadron was established on August 1, 1959, deployed at Chitose Air Base. It is the JASDF’s sixth squadron.

The 6 Squadron operated the F-86F Sabre before upgrading to F-1 in 1981. From 2004, the 6 Squadron began the transition to F-2.

This color profile is for 6 Squadron’s F-2 which attended the 2010 Tac Air Meet.

It is the first plastic model from Hasegawa for the the Ace Combat 5.

The cover looks decidated and graceful. The radar screen has retained the original flavor of Ace Combat 5. The symbol of the Ace Combat 5 is replaced by the symbols of the project ACEs and Ace Combat. Does the Ace Combat 5’s logo looked old-school?

The color scheme is for OSEA’s Ace ZIPANG which appeareded in Mission 03 of Ace Combat 5. The scheme could be used after beating Zipang in the game. The name for this model is ‘Cherry Blossom’.

As expected that the model is in purple. The photo etching is included. As usual, the ammunition is not included. No need to say much about other part as Hasegawa’s F-14 is probably the best choice for F-14 1/72 model.

The symbols for Wardog squadron and Osea Air Combat Command are included. The stencil is in low visibility. By the way, in the few available plastic models for Acecombat, all of them are for the Ace Combat 5. Furthermore, all is for the Wardog squadron. Personally, I really want something for the Razgriz squadron.

The F-14D is painted with dark blue and purple. The F-14D seems to be a perfect match for this scheme, as the wings swept, the petals drift, which looks so lively.

A helicopter was down in the Osama raid. It is obviously that people try to ‘hide’ it. Though nowadays, nothing can escape the media easily though this project did quite a good job until this event.

My first impression of this stealth helicopter is that it looks so shabby. However, it seems worked for not seen by Pakistani defenses.

I hope further info could be revealed. At the moment, I have made a guesswork depending on what I can achieve now.

The 2011 China Model Expo was held in Beijing from April 30 to May 2.

As the J-20 has been revealed, many companies come up with J-20 models.

A detailed paper model for J-20. Though the shape seems inaccurate.

The 204 Hikotai was founded in 1964 operating F-104. From 1980s, the 204 Hikotai became the third f-15 squadron. It was dismiss for a short time. But it was reformed in 1985.

The 204 Hikotai attended the 2010 Tac Air Meet. Here is the color profile for this squadron’s F-15 with the special scheme for this event.

The 301 Hikotai was founded on October 16, 1973 as the first F-4EJ squadron. It was a group member of the No 7 Air Group. From 1985, they became a part of No 5 Air Group.

The squadron’s patch features a frog wearing a muffler. As they transferred to the No 5 Air Group, the stars on the muffler changed from seven to five. Another interesting thing is that the Japanese pronunciation of their symbol, which is a frog, sounds like ‘return sound’ in Japanese. It might be this reason, this squadron always come up with funny patches.

The 2010’s TAC was held around Aomori Prefecture, the Misawa base, Hokkaido and the Chitose base.
Three F-2’s squadrons, six F-15’s squadrons, four Tactical Fighter Training Groups attended.

The color profile is for the 201 squadron who participated this event with F-15.

The nose art.

Can’t help buying things from Japan in spite of the radiation. I just got the Su-33 1/72 Flanker D Hoshii Miki model for iDOLM@STER Ace Combat 6 Plane shipped from Japan. It is good to see that after such a big earthquake, everything seems to be normal. It’s amazing that all shipping time is as usual, no delay at all.

Thanks to the overwhelming fans of iDOLM@STER, Hasegawa finally produced a newly tooled Su-33 1/72 model. Su-33 could seldom considered as a hot topic, as at the moment only Russian Navy uses with about 19 aircraft deployed. (BTW, it will be Chinese J-15 though). It is obvious that Hasegawa is satisfied with sales of the ‘Itaki’, the aircraft with anime, manga or games patterns painted on.

The first impression is the big box. However, compared with the Hasegawa’s Su-27, they are of the same size.

The normal schemed Su-33 will be released a few months later. At time being, only the special colored one is available.

The green one is the new Su-33. The grey one below is the Hasegawa’s Su-27. The new one is much sharper and more details have been added.

The infrared decoys dispenser pod has been improved greatly. However, the wings can not be folded.

The shape of the Su-27’s tailboom is longer. The new Su-33 come up with the shorter ones, which is more reliable.

The inaccuracy of the Su-27’s back part led to the inaccurate of the tail, which was end up too big. This time, the Su-33’s tail is precise. The elevator’s actuating cylinder is separated, which could be easily posed.

The shape of the elevator has been corrected and more details have been added.

The air intake is excellent too.

It is not quite ideal that the nose has been divided into two parts.

The nozzle has been improved too.

The flame holder is more vivid but not layered. I think the ICM’s Su-27 is better in this particular part.

The speed brake is longer.

More details have been added to the instrument panel and the canopy.

Look at the main undercarriage, it is the undercarriage that ship borne aircraft should have.

The cockpit and the tail hook.

The JASDF’s TAC Meet is held every year mainly at Komatsu Airbase, Nyutabaru Airbase and traing areas.

Five pilots, who has no experience of attending the TAC Meet, from every squadron will form a three aircraft group for the competition. One aircraft and one pilot are the backups. Pilots will be devided into two groups to comptete with the Tactical FIghter Training Group, which is the aggressors of the JASDF.

Every year, every squadrons will not only show off the gorgeous aircraft scheme, but also come up with various stunning patch.

One of the noticeable squadron is the 201 Hikotai.  The 201 Hikotai was founded in 1963 as a transition squadron of F-104 implementing training course. It was once dismissed in 1974. But re-engaged in 1986 deployed with F-15.

This squadron is based at Chitose Air Base, Hokkaido. The Japanese squadron usually uses local heros or local animals representing their squadron. So, the 201 Hikotai’s symble is the Ursus arctos which live in Hokkaido area.
